vintage bloom...

Today I had fun digging through my ribbon drawers to find some lovely, creamy vintage lace...

I spent much of yesterday window shopping with my best buddy and the time seemed to fly by. Our first stop out was Starbucks, of course, and off we went. I think we talked more than looked at anything, but it was a wonderful day. Came home to a clean house...thank you hubby...and to two exhausted boys. I have been feeling like spring cleaning is just right around the corner and I am not sure where to begin this year...the closet of stuff the kids have outgrown...scrubbing at the tile grout...or painting a few rooms. They all sound like so much fun, right? So as I am trying to decide each day I craft...A pocket of tags that will be posted in my shop by this evening. Thought to mix and match a little this time.
Think I may tackle the smaller closet today...hopefully...maybe. Have a great day!

a big thank you...

We are done, survived and can now sit back and relax. Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. Our little man had a fantastic birthday. Watching fifteen kids, four to eight years old, bowl was completely entertaining for us adults. Following a three hour party we loaded, unloaded and unpacked all of the items from the car...which are now scattered about the house. I put all of that aside and jumped back into my destresser...scrapping, of course. I was able to fit in two hours of uninterrupted craft play...
One more card before I go for today and then off to create a few flowers to add to my shop as well.

I think this sentiment says it all. Have a great Sunday wherever you may find yourself today.

no one ever told me...

Throwing a birthday party for a seven year old is exhausting...and we haven't even had it yet. After a week of running errands, important get togethers with my mom friends :) and trying to prep for this weekend's birthday party I am finding little time to relax and tinker in my craft room. So, between naps today I was able to sit for a bit and dig into my paper...
I love this yellow felt...as you may have seen it being used in several projects recently. It is warm and sunny.I created this gift box set of mini cards today, topping the box with burlap, fabric, wrinkle ribbon from Prairie Bird Boutique and paper.
Tried to use as much color as possible...and believe I accomplished that :)

I am currently working on several new items to post in my shop on Sunday and Monday so hope you can stop by again. Off to finish the cupcake picks and cupcakes (and try not to sneak one for myself in the process).

Have a wonderful weekend and can't wait to share my new creations with you on Sunday. More bunnies and spring flowers to come!

from the garden...

Today was my day to host the Whimsie Wednesday Challenge, which I hope you can join along...and boy did I have a lot of fun with it.

First I created this gift basket using the tutorial here. As the base for the box I used a 3" clear box here. I then used the strawberry and leaf digital image as a pattern to create these ornaments/tags. Now to finish the other three strawberries to fill my basket. Thank you for stopping by and hop on over to Whimsie Doodles if you get a chance and play along for a chance to win a free image!

Supplies include: sentiment-edibles from Whimsie Doodles, mini-valentines (circle frame) from Whimsie Doodles, clear box and adhesive pearls from Paper Garden Project, wrinkle ribbon from Prairie Bird Boutique and stick pin from Creations by AR.

my star...

Seven years ago today I became a mother to a little boy who has filled my heart with so much joy. I sat up last night just thinking of that moment when my hubby and I went from a twenty something married couple with little to worry about to parents...ahh! It all happened so quickly, but now we are here...enjoying life in our little home, with our little men and plenty of love to go around.
I realized I don't make many birthday cards...so, for this special day...Tomorrow is the Wednesday Whimsie Challenge, which I will be hosting, and hope you will be able to join along. I have a special gift set to share with you and show the use of a new item that I have been waiting to work with. Here is a sneak peek...
Before I go, the bunny is back today...

Off to wrap a few gifts, clean up a few crafts and maybe take a few minutes to catch my breath. See you back here tomorrow hopefully and I will be posting more in my shop later this week now that my shipping slate is clean :)

a flower a day...

I love when the day comes to fill my flower pots full of beautiful blooms. Spent hours pacing down the garden aisle of Home Depot the other day to find a variety of flowers and colors. I wanted one of everything...guess I gotta get more pots :) For now I filled my need for more color with these cards...

Once again used the burlap strands as twine...a little crinkled, but love the look. Also, sat near my scrap paper bins and started brining out brightly colored pieces to complete each card. I find that digging through the scraps keeps those inspirational wheels turning. Whether it is a color combination, pattern of a paper or just finding pieces you have forgotten about that were your favorite. Just filled my shop with tons of flower embellishments like this one below, which was used in the cards above. Lots of color and remember that you can use them for so many projects, including accessories!

One last tag before I head out to create my butterfly garden, which I hope I have some little helpers. Here's to a happy spring and hope you are warming up if you are up north. Enjoy the day and will be back here on Wednesday with a challenge. Stay tuned to see more bunny/Easter projects as well...including gift baskets. Off to pack a few orders...

it's back...

After two weeks of a very cranky almost seven year old roaming our house...his bright smile and unforgettable giggle is back. We had almost lost it and he seemed to really believe his world was crashing down around him. Thankfully we broke through his little wall and crossing my fingers we don't see it for atleast a couple of weeks...please! Us parents need a break. With his birthday celebration just around the corner I am hoping that we are all smiles. This year he requested a a very specific theme...Super Mario Bros. So I went to work on his invitation and ended up with this...

If you are familiar with Super Mario Bros. this will hopefully be clear what it is. After completing twenty of these my little man was so excited. Now to make the favor boxes, cupcakes and cupcake picks.

A little bunny crafting for myself last night. My hubby actually wanted me to craft the night away since I seemed to be having so much fun. After using the little bunny die cut yesterday to dress up a card I moved to a pocket of tags. I received this white bag with an order I received yesterday and I couldn't help but stitch it and tuck something away inside...

Used a little bit of pink vintage lace (ruffled at the bottom), ribbon from Prairie Bird Boutique, string from my burlap scrap pieces to tie on the vintage buttons, and found these little glass hearts in this mix from Joann's called "bead soup". If you ever get to Joann's and head down the bead aisles and come across this container of beads for about $9...
...look closely (I already took out the beads, but just to show you the container). There are so many amazing pieces in it and if you use a 50% coupon it is only $4.50! Great for crafting and comes with many jewelry pieces as well. The beads used on the end of each banner penant the other day was from this bunch as well.

Hope you are soaking up the sun today. The cranes and water birds in our pond have been taking the mornings to wade in the water and gaze into the early sun. Quite a funny picture each morning on my way back from school drop-offs. Enjoy the extended weekend and I am going to go tackle that last little bit of laundry and go pick out some paint and flowers today.

Enjoy!

to new beginnings...

My good friend Karey asked me yesterday how I go about designing. well...I find that images pop up in my head (quite often I have to say) and it kind of snowballs from there. Yesterday, for example, I had this tag design in my head. The flower die cut and framed circles stuck in my brain and it was a priority over the enormous pile of dishes to put something together this morning. A few glances into my scrap bin and away I go. I truly believe that you can't limit yourself. Whether it is a new color combination, material or technique...push the envelope and just try it. I do have projects that don't get photographed :) I came across these pearl stick pins in the floral department of the craft store which I love and were quite affordable! All I did was added a couple of glass beads and they help add a little color to the top of the tag. A few days ago I cut out three green, pink and cream cardstock tags. I knew I wanted to make them each unique to celebrate the coming of spring. So after sharing with you the pink and cream tags...the last tag on this little journey is...Finally, an Easter card with this little bunny. Again, I used the stick pin with glass beads to add a little more color and embellishment. If you get a chance to stop by my mother's Etsy shop at practicalelegance.etsy.com to see her new hair pieces and pincushions that would be wonderful. I will be posting, later this evening, flower embellishments in my shop that she used on some of her pieces.

Off to fold some laundry...which by the way never seems to end. Not my favorite chore and probably never will be. What is your most dreaded house chore? Everyone probably has one...right?

Have a spectacular evening!

burlap anyone...

As I may have mentioned my mother and I made many trips to the fabric section of the craft store recently and as I walked up and down the aisle I couldn't help but smile. The colors, textures and patterns just draw me in. Sometimes I wish I were a quilter, but really...don't have the time or patience for cutting and stitching so many elements to one blanket. So I do what I can and add them to my projects where I am not usually required, or do I ever, have to have a straight edge. This past week I was looking for some felt and right below was this creamy looking burlap. Rough...rugged, a little shabby chic and vintage feeling (at least that is what my mind was thinking). After completing two new projects I wanted to share the result.
I found this fabulous yellow floral fabric and love the touch of color it adds to a fairly light colored set.

Wrinkle ribbon from Prairie Bird Boutique.

What I found with the burlap is that you can peel away strands that act as twine...and for only $2.49 a yard it was such a bargain.

Hope you are having a splendid day. My littlest man is home with an upset belly today and am lucky to spend some cuddle time with him. Until tomorrow my friends...

and I sit alone...

My mother departed early this morning and my crafting buddy is gone. I kept saying that if we lived near each other we would never leave each other's craft rooms. We crafted for days...trying to come up with new flower designs, playing with lots of material and couldn't be complete without almost daily trips to the craft store. Although our styles can be different it is fun to mix and match ideas and come up with something we both love. So today I wanted to share one project that kept swimming around in my head after picking up some lovely new fabrics in which my mom made the perfect flowers to embellish it...

I don't know if you have a flower that you have loved since you were a child, but I sure did...daffodils. I grew up in the country...far from where I live now...on two acres with forests all around us. On most spring and summer days you could find me searching for patches of these flowers and I made sure to pick them all. There are beautiful. Maybe it is the simple layers, bright yellow centers or just the pure enjoyment of finding so many all bunched together. I don't know how many bouquets were made and set on our dining room table...but I sure do miss those days. With the bold colors of the fabrics and flowers this banner was extremely fun and easy to make. Now if I could only fill my garden with these flowers and they wouldn't be eaten by tiny little critters.

Just a reminder that I will be posting again in my Etsy shop and have made sure that all items are of the highest quality! I will begin listing on Thursday and hope you can stop by my blog here to share a few more projects with me. Let's just see what's swimmin' around in my head now.

Enjoy your day!

a day to pick some flowers...

It is just about time to begin filling up the planters again with some beautiful spring flowers...but before we do my mother and I have been creating a few indoors this week and couldn't wait to pick a few to post here on my blog.
This is a little project below I have been working on this morning to showcase some of the flower embellishments that I will be posting in my Etsy shop coming in the next few days. The large flower on the gift box has been turned into a brooch...an extra little something to include with the box of four mini cards.

Off to rest my hand a little after holding a needle for several days. Can't wait to share more in the next week and hope you can stop by my mother's shop www.practicalelegance.etsy.com to view her flower headbands and other beautiful treasures soon!

Maybe a trip to my local nursery will give more ideas...inspiration everywhere! Also, if you haven't hopped over to Prairie Bird Boutique for some fabulous wrinkle ribbon you are missing out. My friend just sent me a few new colors and as you may have noticed use it in every project I create. Just looking at the bundles get the wheels turning.
