no. 140 {DIY recipe: pom-pom penguin}

Are you ready for some fluffy creating today?
There are a few things to mention before you get started.

1.  There are gadgets on the market that can assist with making your pom-poms; however, I just use my two fingers, as shown in the photos, which is quick and consistent for me.  Feel free to use a different method that works best for you.

2.  Use this tutorial for further assistance in trimming and fluffing your pom-pom.
Similar except for how you line up your colors.

3.  The additional parts of the penguin, made from felt, can be cut using the patter below:
Size may vary, depending on the size of your penguin.

If you have questions please feel free to ask.

no. 139 {Critter art: this little piggy}

Who's in a pink mood?

Happy Monday and ready to jump into a week of gettin' stuff done. After a tossing and turning kind of night, out of coffee morning, and pom-pom fuzz that stretches across the house, I am ready to create.

Although I promised a pom-pom DIY recipe this week, hoping for sharing that tomorrow, I wanted to share a new little critter that popped in the old noggin' this morning.  Inspired by both a piggy pom-pom critter that will be gracing the pages of the blog this week, curly tail and all, and a sweet lady who asked me to make a few custom brooches for her a few weeks back.   The pattern was made, the felt was flying, and stitched, snipped and stitched some more.  Added a alligator clip to the back and there you have it.  Plush, pink and ready to go!

If you are ready to pom-pom see you back here in the next day or two.

no. 138 {CRITTER art: pom-pom penguin preview}

Sharing pom-pom love with this little penguin this morning to send us into the weekend.  Getting things ready to share the next DIY recipe in the coming week.  Time to gather your yarn and join in the pom-pom making fun.

no. 137 (heart FELT expressions: smile}

Happy Friday fellow crafters!

It is a day of some outdoor adventures for us here, taking in some sunshine and hoping for many smiles along the way.  Keeping it short this morning as it is one of those days to get up and go.  Time to put the tennis shoes on and be ready for anything.

Let's get it started...

no. 136 {DIY recipe: felt embellished wreath}

The sun is slightly shining, looking forward to a few hours of quiet, kid free time this morning, and ready to share the next installment of the DIY Recipe.  Let's get started!
Last week I shared this heart FELT expression with you and thought it would make for the perfect DIY breakdown.  Realizing that not everyone has a sewing machine or die cuts, this recipe can be altered to best use the supplies you may.  The variations are as follows:

1.  Instead of sewing the three overlapping circles try drawing, stamping, or even gluing thread to the paper to create the base of your wreath.

2.  If you don't have a die cut for the tiny leaves just take your scissors and cut away at some felt.  This is a very simple cut.  Two arches and your are done.

Now, time to make a embellished wreath of your very own!  What technique will you use?

Happy crafting!

no. 135 {heart FELT expressions: open your heart}

Taking a few days to celebrate my oldest becoming a teenager.  I will be back soon when the sun is shining, my schedule is open to creative moments and the celebration has died down.  A new DIY recipe to share hopefully by Friday!

no. 134 {CRITTER art: raccoon}

Going into this weekend with a few items on my wish list.  I have high hopes that my energy level will peak any moment and things will start getting done.  Debating on that second cup of coffee today.  And as I go about the cleaning, the painting of a bathroom, the playing with the family, this little guy sits waiting to be finished.  It is like he is watching me pass back and forth through the dining area with his little felt eyes.  He grabbed my attention just enough today to snap a photo or two to share.  The time will come, my hands will be busy with crafting supplies at some point this weekend, maybe when we all scatter to our corner of the house for some quiet time.

See you Monday for another DIY recipe!  Can't wait to share more.

no. 133 {heart FELT expressions - be your best}

Waking up to a slightly cooler day and so very thankful for that.  For those who have seen a lot of very cold and snowy weather this winter, you may be ready for warmer days.  For me, anything below seventy is a reason to celebrate before the humidity and heat set in for the year.

Yesterday, as the non-producing rain clouds blew through (sad face), we headed out to the archery range for the fifth week in a row.  For the past couple of years I have been in search of a sport that my boys would attach to.  We have tried martial arts, soccer, tennis, swimming, baseball, and, the most recent, fencing.  So we went to the next on the list which happened to be archery.

On our first day, the coach said something very important to them.  "It is about doing your best. It will come naturally to you."  Boy, was she right!  For the first time I saw smiles on their faces unlike any other.  They weren't competing with each other, or feeling intimidated by the professional competitors that were shooting beside them, they were truly striving for their best.

Created this felt wreath this morning before digging into the days work.  Will be sharing it in my next DIY recipe on Monday.

Wishing you a fabulous day of being your best!

no. 132 {WOOD art - blue skies}

The sky is a bit dark and cloud covered this morning, but it was a mix of beautiful shades of blue yesterday.  Strange to say, but I welcome the clouds here in the warm and usually sunny state of Florida.  Now if it could produce a bit of rain that may make for the perfect day.  Being that I spent most of my life in a city that is known for the most rainfall I miss it at times. There is something so comforting, cozy, relaxing watching and listening to rain drops pitter-patter against the windows.

Whether it decides to rain or not today, there are things to be done, places to go, and (at the moment) coffee to be sipped on.  After all is said and done today, may be a good time to finish up the raccoon felt piece I have been working on.  It is currently without eyes, one of the more difficult pieces to place on these critters.  Too far in they are cross-eyed and too far out they no longer resemble eyes. If I happen to find the right placement I will share her tomorrow.

no. 131 {DIY recipe 001 - mini heart garland}

Happy {heart} day!

That time of year when hearts are plentiful and, as a crafter, you are digging into some handmade projects as often as possible, maybe with a few hearts?

Over the years I have sold these mini felt hearts in my shop and love them to "pieces".  They have been used as card embellishments (check out this one here, so amazing), scrapbook embellishments, tiny flowers, and party confetti to name a few.

What would you create?

Today, being that it is Valentine's Day, thought it would be fitting to share a new tutorial format I hope to keep sharing with you each week.  Being that I typically follow recipes for baking and cooking, thought this would be a great format for DIY craft projects as well.

So let's roll up the sleeves, clear some space on the craft table and dive right in to our first recipe.
Hope you can have some fun with this and other DIY recipes to come.  Happy to share my love to creating with you.

If you have any questions or would like to see a specific project, leave me a message here or feel free to email me.

Now let's get to crafting!

no. 130

When you can't decide on which color thread is your favorite for this project, why not just use them all?

Hope your day is filled with as much color as this tiny slice of wood!  Making this a marvelous Monday!

no. 129

It is the weekend and what better time to relax and enjoy some creative time at the table, right?  Everyone has taken their usual place in the house.  Kids jumping from the park, to strolls with friends, and back home hanging out in their rooms.  Husband, taking in a nap and movie.  The pets have found their sleeping spot for the next few hours.  That leaves my bedroom, baking in the sun on the patio, or at the craft table.  Guess what I picked?
Over the past couple of months I have heard the saying "tiny is the new trendy".  I know this refers to the tiny house movement I love so much, but in my crafty world it is all about the felt.  The most recent addition are these.
When a scrap pile of felt meets a circle and leaf die cut followed by a needle and thread you have these tiny fuzzy caterpillars.  They make me smile.  All that color in less than an inch, oh yeah!

Are you a scrap pile crafter?

no. 128

To say that yesterday had a few bumps is a complete understatement.  So here is how it went...

A new box of crackers were spilled all over the office floor, where food is supposed to be restricted.  Thankfully the dog licked up what we missed.

-  The large smoothie, that was a special request from my oldest, ended up on the living room rug.  He pointed the finger at the cat, who fled.  I pointed my finger at the blanket that he had hanging over the side of the couch.  What really matters is that it happened, it was a lot, and the rug is now slightly more pink in that area.

-  Our mini cellphone tower wasn't working, causing me to hover around the side windows in my house if I wanted to communicate with the outside world.

-  On my second load of laundry, a very loud squeaking noise echoed through the halls.  It was our dryer...it died!

-  After looking forward to a night kid free this weekend, I got a message that our friends little one was sick and that we may have to postpone a sleepover.

It was enough to get me to take it out on the this little fluffy chick.  Cutting all of the yarn, snip-snip-snipping away helped.   Maybe the bright color helped too.  I know this much, if today has as many bumps I am locking myself in the closet until it is all over.

What do you do when you have off days?

Note:  Working on a tutorial to show how to create a multi-colored pom-pom.  Will share more next week!

no. 126, the follow-up.

Yesterday I snapped a head shot of this little, fluffy gal, and yes I am still finding pieces of floating fuzz which are scattered about my work space.  It is all worth it.  Her head tilted, just a bit, delicate little whiskers, sewn feet and ears, and...
cannot for get the most important addition to her...the pom-pom tail.

If you haven't made a pom-pom creation yet, take a stroll through Pinterest and get inspired.

Working on adding to my felt zoo here, and will share it soon.  Give you a hint...

Now get to pom-pomming!

no. 126

Need more POM-POM?  I do!

Made the excuse to head to the pet store yesterday and what happens to be next to it?  The craft store, of course.  Headed back to the yarn department on a mission.  Came right home and started creating.  Love this yarn: 100% cotton, soft, forms well and oh so fluffy!  Think I am still picking fuzz off of me.

Working on a better picture of this little gal.  She is made up of a a very pale peach tone yarn, with a white belly and tail.  More to share tomorrow.

Created this last week, after I fell off my "balance beam" a few times.  Some weeks just have a few more bumps than others.

no. 125

Bringing you a little something fluffy to start the weekend.  A project that requires just a bit of yarn, two beads, a tiny square of felt white and yellow felt, and some ribbon.  Quite easy, can be a little messy with all of that fuzz, but in the end you get a little pom-pom critter all your own.

This is what I shared years ago with how to create a pom-pom bunny.  Similar to how to create the chick and duck.
With the baby duck I sewed the felt elements, including tiny wings for the sides (may be difficult to see in the photo).

Pom-poms just make me happy, how about you?

🐤  Spring is coming!  🐤

It is that time of year...spring cleaning!  A feeling that I typically recognize mid-cleaning.  This year is a little different.  With that "year 40" goal in mind it is time to change things up, taking what we have and livening it up with a little twist, which brings me to this post today.

This little cutie is from several years ago.  I loved creating her.  Coming across her on Pinterest, I decided it was time to revisit the pom-pom creation and try a little something different.  So far a compliment from my youngest on the new little cutie and can't wait to share it soon!  Stay tuned...and happy spring cleaning for anyone who is carting around cleaning supplies much of the day like me.

See you in a few days!
